The Role

This twelve month fixed term contract will see you working from our 990 La Trobe Street office and working from home. You’ll be responsible for helping Melbourne Water maximize strategic land use planning opportunities to deliver on its organisational vision, objectives and strategies.  

This role will to deliver strategic land use planning projects and programs.  You will work with government departments, stakeholders and across Melbourne Water to help influence for better strategic land use planning outcomes, including contributing to state and regional policy development.

Working across Melbourne Water, you will have a commitment to working collaboratively with experts from a range of disciplines. This formative work will help ensure Melbourne Water is optimising the use of the planning system to achieve better outcomes for Melbourne, the community and the environment.

Your Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated track record of strategic land use planning
  • Expert proficiency and knowledge in the following areas are preferred:
  • Land Use Planning policies, legislation and procedures
  • VCAT and Planning Panel experience
  • Stormwater and floodplain management
  • Integrated Water Management
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, including project design, delivery, evaluation, budget management and reporting
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills and an ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of people, sometimes in conflict situations
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills with the ability to facilitate mutually agreed outcomes
  • Ability to work with stakeholders to build, maintain and improve relationships
  • Experience in delivering outcomes in an environment with complex issues, programs and stakeholders
  • Lead organisational change by engaging internal stakeholders to understand their needs and facilitate innovation
  • Drive business decisions that incorporate sound considerations of business risk and liability

Your ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders is required together with a tertiary qualification in a related field.
