Who We Are

In Melbourne, water is essential to our way of life.

As caretakers for Melbourne’s water cycle, we care for water, life and land throughout Melbourne: both its people and its biodiversity.

Each time you drink from the tap, flush a toilet, run through a backyard sprinkler, or kayak down the Yarra—we’re there. Primed and ready, quietly delivering some of the world’s cleanest water for over five million residents and wildlife that call Melbourne home —just as we have for over 130 years.

If you value making it count, diving in with curiosity, and doing what’s right, you're in the right place.

About The Role

Reporting to the Portfolio Manager Internal Audit, this position is accountable for enabling the provision of independent, objective and commercially focused assurance to Melbourne Water and its Board. This role ensures that the Corporate Internal Audit Plan is delivered efficiently and effectively.

This is full time, permanent role based from Docklands Head Office with flexibility to work from home.

This will be achieved through:

  • Preparation of internal audit reports for key stakeholders, including the development, socialisation and negotiation of practical recommendations for management implementation.
  • Independent validation of completed audit actions that demonstrate issue resolution to enable action closure.
  • Creation and presentation of audit action status reporting for Management and Board.
  • Facilitation and administration of external service providers (used in the co-source delivery model) together with internal business stakeholders across the organisation to ensure reviews are completed on time, on budget and to a high standard.
  • Working with external providers to document, acquire and develop audit knowledge and skills.
  • Lead and/or participate in the delivery of other assurance activities which may be required from time to time - including but not limited to: special investigations, project health checks and compliance reviews in accordance with engagement objectives, Melbourne Water expectations and relevant professional standards and practices.
  • Advise stakeholders on a wide range of issues including compliance, governance, risks and internal controls.

About You

  • Strong presentation, analytical, negotiation and stakeholder management skills acquired in an internal audit or similar environment.
  • Highly developed project management and problem solving skills.
  • Experience in report writing for multiple stakeholder levels including Board.
  • Experience applying an in-depth understanding of risk management and compliance frameworks.
  • Technical knowledge in identifying key audit issues and recommending and validating practical solutions.
  • Expertise in influencing and negotiating management actions for key audit findings.
  • Experience working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to reach mutually agreeable solutions.
  • Technical experience in Technology/Cyber Security and relevant accounting or auditing qualifications is highly desirable (CA/CPA/CIA/CISA).
