About The Role 

As the Principal Construction Engineer, reporting to the DSS Quality Assurance Regional Manager, you will be a Registered Engineer and construction expert, approving technical engineering decisions being proposed by Construction Engineers in the team. You will also work closely with the Project Engineers in the Construction Assessment & Delivery (CAD) team at Melbourne Water who works collaboratively with land development consultants, contractors and private landowners to ensure that the new stormwater treatment & flood prevention infrastructure assets such as Wetlands, Waterways, Retarding Basins & Pipelines being constructed in conjunction with the development, meet Melbourne Water’s standards and expectations. 

Your key responsibilities include: 

  • Inspect DSS construction sites around the Melbourne Water region to make practical engineering & vegetation decisions in real time, assess and resolve field-based issues, collaborating closely with Construction & Project Engineers in the CAD team and various stakeholder teams throughout Melbourne Water. 
  • Provide input and comment on the suitability of the Site Environmental Management Plan (SEMP) submitted by the developers' consultant. 
  • Involvement in project management, encompassing financial aspects such as variations, cost options, and more. 

About You 

  • Relevant Tertiary qualification in Environmental/Civil Engineering required. 
  • Experience within Environmental, Geotechnical, Vegetative, SEMP’s and/or Civil Engineering projects. 
  • Experience in the Land Development industry, preferably derived from site-based roles within Government entities. 
  • Ability to demonstrate capabilities including decision making related to working on simultaneous multiple large-scale site based projects.  
  • Demonstrated proficiency in interpersonal and negotiation abilities. 
  • Capacity to lead, guide and support fellow team members in handling intricate site-based matters and navigating ambiguous situations with financial consequences. 
  • A preference is given to individuals showcasing experience in both people and technical leadership roles. An essential requirement is a background that includes informal mentoring and coaching experience. 
  • Strong Health, Safety & Environment mindset in relation to working on active construction sites. 
  • Engineering Registration and Industry White Card required. 
  • Willing to perform Medical, Criminal Record and Qualification Checks. 
  • Victorian Drivers Licence required. 

An Operational vehicle will be supplied with the option to explore Limited Private Use. This role will require you to work from site 4 days per week (any region of Melbourne’s growth areas) and currently one day from the Docklands office or home. 

HG 16 Salary Range for this role: $124,840 - $156,050 package - based on experience.
