Who We Are

In Melbourne, water is essential to our way of life.

As caretakers for Melbourne’s water cycle, we care for water, life and land throughout Melbourne: both its people and its biodiversity.

Each time you drink from the tap, flush a toilet or kayak down the Yarra, we’re there. Primed and ready, quietly delivering some of the world’s cleanest water for over five million residents and wildlife that call Melbourne home, just as we have for over 130 years.

If you value making it count, diving in with curiosity, and doing what’s right, you're in the right place.

Expression of Interest – Project Managers

Location: Docklands, Melbourne (with travel to operational sites)

We are inviting Expressions of Interest from experienced Project Managers who are passionate about developing complex infrastructure projects that make a tangible difference to communities and the environment.

Based at our Docklands head office, these roles lead capital project development across metropolitan Melbourne, with regular travel to project sites. We have multiple opportunities available across our Water, Sewerage, Drainage & Waterways portfolios.

You’ll be part of an organisation committed to enhancing life and liveability for current and future generations, working on projects that protect communities, waterways and critical infrastructure. These roles offer exposure to high-impact programs, strong professional support, and opportunities to grow your career across diverse portfolios.

About The Role

As a Project Manager you will be accountable for the end-to-end development of capital projects from project initiation to ready for tender, ensuring they are delivered efficiently, on time and within budget, while meeting defined safety, quality and functional outcomes.

Working closely with internal stakeholders, delivery partners and regulators, you will play a key role in translating business needs into well-defined, investment-ready projects and driving best-practice project management, governance and procurement methodologies.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the safe and effective delivery of allocated projects from initiation through to Ready for Tender and delivery handover
  • Developing business cases, functional requirements and supporting documentation to enable informed investment decisions
  • Managing project scope, budget, schedule, forecasting and risk, ensuring value-for-money outcomes and strong governance
  • Driving best-practice capital delivery, procurement and delivery model selection (e.g. D&C, D then C)
  • Engaging and influencing a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including sponsors, subject matter experts, contractors and regulators
  • Supporting a generative safety culture by actively identifying hazards, managing risks and role-modelling safety leadership
  • Contributing to continuous improvement in project systems, processes and delivery capability

About You

You are a confident and capable project professional who thrives in complex environments and enjoys working across multiple stakeholders and priorities. You will bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering (or a closely related discipline)
  • Experience in the water industry, drainage, flood mitigation, waterways or dam-related infrastructure – highly regarded (role dependent)
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, project development and delivery, ideally within critical infrastructure, environmentally sensitive areas, utilities or large asset-intensive organisations
  • Strong capability in business case development, financial management, risk and change management
  • Experience managing design and construct projects and progressing multiple projects concurrently
  • Well-developed communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills including experience of contractual management of consultants.
  • A recognised project management certification (PMP, AIPM, IPMA, GAPPS or equivalent) – desirable
  • Some roles may require additional pre-employment checks (such as AusCheck), depending on portfolio and asset type.
