Who we are

In Melbourne, water is essential to our way of life. As caretakers of Melbourne’s water cycle and catchments, we care for water, life, and land across the city. From protecting storages and preparing for floods, to restoring waterways and supporting thriving communities, our work shapes how Melbourne lives.

At the same time, we plan for the future, preparing for climate challenges in a growing city and ensuring it remains resilient for generations to come.

If you want your work to make a real difference, are willing to dive into complex challenges, and believe in doing what is right, you will find your place here.

Do you love working outdoors, making a visible difference to the environment, and being part of a team that takes pride in protecting and enhancing our natural spaces?

We're looking for passionate and motivated Crew Members - Natural Resource Management (NRM) to join our team based in Brooklyn. This is a hands-on role working across Melbourne's northern and western suburbs, helping maintain and improve waterways, open spaces and environmental assets through vegetation protection and management, weed control and revegetation activities. The role involves natural resource management, land maintenance and environmental works delivered in the field.

Why join us?

No two days are the same. One day you might be undertaking weed control and revegetation works along a waterway, and the next you could be supporting environmental restoration projects across municipalities including:

  • Hume
  • Whittlesea
  • Brimbank
  • Merri-bek
  • Darebin
  • Moonee Valley

You'll be joining a supportive, down-to-earth team led by a passionate leader who is committed to safety, development and creating a positive team culture.

What you'll be doing

Working as part of a field-based crew, you'll help deliver a range of environmental and land management activities, including:

  • Weed control and herbicide spraying
  • Revegetation and environmental restoration works
  • Vegetation and land management activities
  • Operating hand and power tools
  • Maintaining tools and equipment
  • Supporting the protection and enhancement of Melbourne's waterways and natural environments
  • Working safely and contributing to a strong safety culture

These activities align with the delivery of natural resource management and land maintenance works undertaken by Melbourne Water field crews.

We're looking for people who:

  • Enjoy working outdoors in all conditions
  • Are passionate about the environment and conservation
  • Take pride in delivering quality work
  • Work well in a team environment
  • Have a strong focus on safety
  • Are reliable, motivated and willing to learn

Experience in environmental, conservation, land management, parks, landscaping, horticulture, agriculture or related outdoor work will be highly regarded, but enthusiasm and a great attitude are just as important.

What's on offer?

  • Ongoing full-time opportunity
  • Immediate start available
  • Work across a variety of locations and environments
  • Supportive team culture
  • Opportunity to develop practical environmental and land management skills
  • Meaningful work that contributes to healthier waterways and communities
  • A role where you can see the impact of your work every day

If you're passionate about the outdoors and want to help protect and enhance the environment while working with a great team, we'd love to hear from you. View PD here; Download File Position Description - Crew NRM.pdf
