About the Roles

The Asset Protection team currently have three full time vacancies. As the Senior Asset Protection Officer you will be responsible for complex applications of works interfacing with Melbourne Water assets and administering Asset Protection Condition Letters spanning across the Melbourne region.


This position comprises work that is often complex, unique and critical particularly with regards to the consequences of asset failure if inappropriate development is allowed to proceed.  The Senior Asset Protection Officer will be expected to negotiate satisfactory outcomes with developers, consultants, council staff and landowners to help facilitate outcomes that meet environmental and asset protection standards. This includes:

  • Manage complex cases in regards to the consequences of asset failure, if inappropriate development is allowed to proceed.
  • Manage communication on works proposals for Land Development, Other Authorities Works and Private Works etc.
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Act as the main contact into Melbourne Water for developers, Councils and the community.

As the Asset Protection officer the aim is to  reduce risk and damage to Melbourne Water assets caused by external customer segments during building or service authority works. The Asset Protection Officer is the interface for customers and will propose opportunities to assist in obtaining consent to works as needed. This includes:

•        Represent Melbourne Water at inter-agency, council meetings, forums and seminars on land development issues to ensure Melbourne Water’s standards are maintained and continuously improved.

•        Negotiations with government agencies, developers, consultants and landowners to achieve mutually satisfactory outcomes in complex applications and matters of dispute.

•        Manage a high volume of enquiries, ensuring quality and a positive customer experience is maintained and that timeframes within our Customer Commitment and Developer Customer Charter are achieved.

About you:

  • Demonstrated significant experience and knowledge in areas of:
    • Asset Management
    • Water, sewerage & drainage
    • Land development and town planning
    • Understanding and Interpolation of the Acts and Regulations eg Water Act etc,
  • Experience successfully managing with complex queries with developers, consultants, council staff, landowners and other key stakeholders.
  • Excellent negotiation skills with the ability to facilitate mutually agreed outcomes on complex issues.
  • Developed analytical, risk assessment ad mitigation skills
  • Developed interpersonal skills and communication skills to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate experience interpreting policies, guidelines and Legislative Acts e.g. Building Regulations, Water Act, Planning Act.
  • Ability to respond to various demands, and manage multiple activities simultaneously.
