About the Role

Reporting to the the Manager Lower Yarra, the Review Officer Waterways & Drainage North East Link is a pivotal role within the Waterways & Catchment Services team focussed on driving positive outcomes for waterways and drainage assets throughout the design and construction phases of North East Link. Part of Victoria’s Big Build, North East Link is the biggest ever investment in Melbourne’s north east, delivering the 6.5km North East Link tunnels from Watsonia to Bulleen and major upgrades to the Eastern Freeway and M80 Ring Road.

This is a two year fixed term contract for two days a week (0.5 FTE). In this role you will drive positive outcomes for waterways and drainage assets by working with North East Link to ensure a healthier environment for future generations to come. You will:

  • Be a central point of contact for Waterways & Catchments Services for North East Link ensuring that Melbourne Water’s waterways & drainage assets are appropriately protected or replaced as required with suitably designed and constructed waterways and drainage assets.
  • Support, influence and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure North East Link planning and delivery aligns with Melbourne Waters’ Waterway and Drainage standards, guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and provide technical review, input and conditions for the detail design and construction phases relating to waterways and drainage assets impacted by the North East Link stages and other major infrastructure projects as required including; 
    • Design proposals
    • Project work plans & work method statements
    • Control of Works
    • Site environmental plans
    • Correspondence management
    • Co-ordinating the provision of information such as reports and river health requirements
    • Overseeing site construction
    • Supporting final acceptance of works that relate to Melbourne Water waterways assets.

About you:

  • Experience in waterway, catchment, drainage and land asset management, natural resource management, waterway planning, construction and rehabilitation practices, and statutory planning processes.  
  • Experience relating to construction techniques associated with Melbourne Water waterways and drainage assets. 
  • Ability to adopt an organisation-wide perspective and capability to influence and lead external and internal stakeholders. 
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of people both within Melbourne Water, external organisations and with the general public, sometimes in conflict situations. 
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to determine and adapt management approaches for a broad range of waterway, catchment, drainage and land management situations. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work and contribute in a team environment to improve processes, respond to various demands and manage multiple activities simultaneously. 
  • Demonstrated project and contract management skills and the ability to supervise consultants. 
  • A proactive, solutions-focused, continuous improvement mindset and demonstrated resilience.
