Who We Are

In Melbourne, water is essential to our way of life.

As caretakers for Melbourne’s water cycle, we care for water, life and land throughout Melbourne: both its people and its biodiversity.

Each time you drink from the tap, flush a toilet or kayak down the Yarra, we’re there. Primed and ready, quietly delivering some of the world’s cleanest water for over five million residents and wildlife that call Melbourne home, just as we have for over 130 years.

If you value making it count, diving in with curiosity, and doing what’s right, you're in the right place.

About The Role

Join a team that values problem solving, collaboration and professional growth. You will work with experts across the organisation to influence key investment decisions and see the impact of your work on service reliability and long-term asset performance. Reporting to the Manager Service Programs Energy and Electrical, you will help plan and develop Melbourne Water’s Energy and Electrical service portfolio, ensuring programs are optimised to meet service outcomes and long-term asset needs. This role strengthens your technical, strategic and leadership capability within a supportive workplace where your contribution matters

In this role you will:

  • Translate Service Master Plans into system level technical objectives and maintain Asset Management Plans.
  • Lead the development of capital and non‑asset investment programs, including BNIs and Allocations, to support pricing submissions and delivery of approved works.
  • Set program performance objectives and work with teams across the business to monitor, assess and improve performance.
  • Provide technical judgement to prioritise investment across maintenance, renewals and major interventions, while supporting reviews of service risk profiles and contributing to the annual Service Capability Report.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for the Energy and Electrical portfolio by advising on risks, issues and assessments, and applying asset management processes to support continuous improvement within policy guidelines.

About You

You are a technically strong planner and qualified Electrical Engineer who enjoys using data, judgement and collaboration to solve complex problems. You understand how asset planning influences customer outcomes and long-term service performance.

You will bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in electrical engineering and professional registration.
  • Strong experience in service planning or asset management, including risk assessment and program or project management.
  • Ability to evaluate complex options and provide sound technical recommendations.
  • Financial acumen suitable for planning large scale infrastructure investments.
  • Well-developed communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Confidence providing technical leadership across programs and contributing to decision making.
