Who We Are

In Melbourne, water is essential to our way of life.

As caretakers for Melbourne’s water cycle, we care for water, life and land throughout Melbourne: both its people and its biodiversity.

Each time you drink from the tap, flush a toilet or kayak down the Yarra, we’re there. Primed and ready, quietly delivering some of the world’s cleanest water for over five million residents and wildlife that call Melbourne home, just as we have for over 130 years.

If you value making it count, diving in with curiosity, and doing what’s right, you're in the right place.

About The Role

Reporting to the Manager Sewerage Transfer Operations and Integration, you will monitor, control and optimise network flows to keep the sewerage transfer system operating safely and reliably. As you follow established procedures and work closely with maintenance and capital project partners, you will strengthen your SCADA and fault analysis skills and contribute to improvement projects that deliver real‑world results. You will be part of a team that values safety, collaboration and growth, giving you a clear path to deepen your technical and operational capability.

  • Monitor and adjust network flows in line with regulatory, risk and operational limits, including during wet weather events and treatment plant constraints.
  • Use SCADA to diagnose network issues, trend alarms and reduce repeat alerts across the system.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with service partners, including access approvals and technician call in and call out.
  • Review procedures, recommend improvements and support minor capital or IT application upgrades that enhance team performance.
  • Support safety, emergency and security management activities and contribute to incident response when required.
  • Obtain AusCheck Clearance. (please see important information below*)

About you

You are calm under pressure and motivated by purpose. You enjoy systems thinking and you like seeing your actions keep a city running. You bring solid technical aptitude, strong situational awareness and a collaborative style.

We would love to see

  • Tertial qualifications or water operations background in mechanical, electrical or process engineering disciplines, or equivalent capability.
  • Experience operating transfer or distribution networks, control room operations or large plant and equipment or a strong aptitude and willingness to learn
  • Working understanding or experience in control system, SCADA and/or Operational Technology capability to support network monitoring, control and analysis.
  • Ability to work systematically, manage competing priorities and communicate clearly with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • A strong commitment to safety and following set procedures.
