About The Role

This is a rare opportunity to lead a highly skilled operational and technical team that keeps Melbourne’s sewerage transfer system operating safely, reliably and efficiently every day. Reporting to the Head of Western Treatment Plant and Sewerage Transfer, you will guide the operation of a critical city-wide network, providing direction on daily activities, overseeing maintenance and capital improvements, and ensuring new assets are designed, tested, commissioned and integrated effectively. As a senior leader, you will build a strong safety culture, foster constructive stakeholder relationships, drive continuous improvement and grow both your strategic capability and the capability of the people around you. Your contribution will be valued and visible.

 

You will

 

  • Lead the operational team to deliver safe, efficient and compliant daily operations, including maintenance and contingency management.
  • Drive performance and strategic service improvements and network planning
  • Oversee strategic health and safety risk management.
  • Lead the operational integration, commissioning and transition of major new assets into the network.
  • Manage high voltage operations,
  • Maintain strong stakeholder relationships and support the wholesale network through the Duty Manager roster.
  • Ensure financial sustainability through effective budgeting and resource management.

 

About You

You are a confident operational leader who brings strategic and technical depth and the ability to guide a team through complex and changing conditions. You thrive in an environment where safety, collaboration and continuous improvement matter. You enjoy influencing across the business and shaping the future of a major operational network. 

 

You will bring

 

  • A relevant tertiary qualification or extensive experience in mechanical, electrical or process‑related operations.
  • Extensive experience operating or leading transfer or distribution networks, or large‑scale mechanical and electrical plants.
  • Strong understanding of hydraulics, pumping, odour treatment and mechanical processes.
  • Expertise in SCADA, PLC and IT systems for monitoring, control, reporting and operational decision‑making.
  • Experience with high voltage operations and associated safety requirements.
  • Strong communication, relationship management and influencing skills that support high‑stakes operational leadership.
  • Obtain AusCheck Clearance. (please see important information below*)

*Important Information

The Security of Critical Infrastructure (SoCI) Act 2018 requires Melbourne Water, as an operator of critical infrastructure, to prepare a Critical Infrastructure Risk Management Program (CIRMP), which has been undertaken and managed by the Security and Emergency Management Team.

Melbourne Water are required to assess roles across Melbourne Water to determine what roles are critical under the Act. All employees working in a role deemed SOCI critical will require additional background checks via AusCheck. The role of Manager Sewerage Transfer Operations and Integration is deemed critical, and the preferred applicant will be asked to undertake an AusCheck.
