Who We Are

In Melbourne, water is essential to our way of life.

As caretakers for Melbourne’s water cycle, we care for water, life and land throughout Melbourne: both its people and its biodiversity.

Each time you drink from the tap, flush a toilet or kayak down the Yarra, we’re there. Primed and ready, quietly delivering some of the world’s cleanest water for over five million residents and wildlife that call Melbourne home, just as we have for over 130 years.

If you value making it count, diving in with curiosity, and doing what’s right, you're in the right place.

About The Role

Based at our Eastern Treatment Plant (ETP), one of Australia’s largest sewage treatment plants, treating half of Melbourne’s sewage and producing high quality Class A recycled water.

As Area Lead Process & Plant Improvement, you will lead a team of engineers to optimise process performance, drive improvement initiatives, and advance automation and control systems at the ETP.

Reporting to the Manager ETP Process Improvement, you will be the technical and people anchor for a high-performing team operating in a complex, dynamic environment.

About You

You are an engineer who is equally comfortable in technical depth and in a room full of stakeholders. You bring credibility through expertise, and lead through energy, judgement, and care for your people.

You will bring:

  • A tertiary degree in chemical, process, or mechanical engineering (equivalent qualifications will be considered)
  • Solid process engineering experience, ideally in wastewater, water treatment, or a comparable complex industrial environment
  • Genuine enthusiasm for people leadership — you do not just manage engineers, you develop them
  • Experience with control systems such as PCS7, and familiarity with automation improvement programs
  • Outstanding analytical skills and experience setting operational benchmarks and KPIs
  • The ability to lead change and influence a wide range of stakeholders, from your team through to regulators
  • High-level communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills
  • The maturity and judgement to contribute to complex decision-making in a critical infrastructure environment
  • Completion of a Criminal Record Check, pre-employment medical and an AusCheck* please see below.
